Sunburst

Sunburst (previously called Radiating Bars) is a bespoke round rug tufted in 100% New Zealand wool in your choice of colour, using the ‘3D Texturing’ technique as a demonstration of the unlimited possibilities that the tufting method, bespoke machinery and CRONZ can offer to create unique textures and finishes. The idea to create this rug came from the desire to achieve a 3D design in cut pile. We were able to accomplish a 3D structure in loop pile in the past but the cut pile surface is a bit more difficult to manage, and requires adjusting the height of two yarn legs instead of one (some tufting basics: the needle inserts yarn into the backing cloth and can either form a loop or cut the thread in two and form a cut pile). The 3D image of the rug was drawn in a vector-based software first, then generated to a machine program for tufting. After many trials (and errors), the tufting height now adjusts to the depth of the lines in the digital rendering and creates structure of various pile heights - a 3D piece for your floor.

To finish the rug, the pile is trimmed up with a shearing machine and hand carved with a carving machine that was built in-house and modified from a conventional carving machine. It’s all about the attention to detail and we ensure every piece is perfect and quality checked before leaving our New Zealand factory.
